From PTO - We are asking our AJHS families to help us as we show our gratitude to all our staff during the week of May 18-22nd .
We will be having gift give a-ways during the M, W, F lunches ( 3 Staff lunch times  for 8th,7th, 6th)  and are hoping to have a variety of gifts -. Gift Cards, plants, etc. donated from our families for our staff to "win" during their lunch time.

We are also providing delicious treats on Tues & Thurs. during break bimes for our staff along with bull lunches on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Please let us know if you're able to help donate items for lunches, treat days, gift give a-ways, and/or helping with set up and clean up.

The next PTO meeting has been rescheduled from the usual 2nd Tuesday of the month, to Tuesday May 26th.  We will be having PTO Board elections for next year. Please reply via email if you are interested in participating in planning PTO sponsored events such as dances, fundraisers, friendship-grams, field trips and more!  We would love to have some​ new board members next year. Contact PTO President, Terry Boche Parents, thank you for your amazing support of ​the ​ AJHS PTO this year!  We are so thankful for the many helping hands that enrich the

our students here at AJHS.  
 AJHS Choirs present their Spring Concert, Wednesday, May 20 at 7:00pm in Baro Gym. Admission is free.

Only 40 Left. Our yearbook turned out fabulous and students will be having a great time remembering the year and getting signatures from their friends in June. We have less than 40 books left available for purchase. Visit the office to get your copy for $50.

7th Grade Talent Show Auditions - Thursday, May 21st

- Ms. Sholly and Ms. Martin are holding auditions for the Talent Show at 3:00 on Thursday, May 21st in Room 37.
- Pick up the Talent Show application from Ms. Sholly in Room 37. Applications need to be turned in on May 15th.

Looking for school appropriate acts. 
Singing!  Dancing!  Comedy Act!  Instrumental Performance! Juggling?
Do you or your friends have a talent to share with your class? Get your friends together and show up at the audition!

8th Graders Health Screening Night - May 27th @ 6:00 p.m. at the high school. We will begin selling Health Screenings on May 13th at the ASB Window just outside the Athletic Office.  Health Screenings are $25.00 while supplies last.  Please note, if a student is going to go to their own doctor, the H requires the Physical be given ON or AFTER May 18th.  Health Screening cards and packets to take to their personal Dr. will be available in the Athletic Office on Monday, May 18th.

SAVE THE DATE:  June 12th 8:40 a.m. 8th grade PROMOTION
The date is Friday, June 12th at 8:40 a.m. on the grassy area behind the cafeteria and district office. Dress is casual.  Parents, please let us know if you have a 6th grade student at another school promoting so we can move your junior high student to the front of the promotion line.  In addition, please call and let us know if you are in need of handicap seating. Contact information: Kim Miller, 462-4360


During promotion handicap parking will be on the interior of the campus. General parking will be on West Mall.  You will be directed to park diagonally by the staff. The city parking lot across the Lewis Avenue bridge and the District Office parking lot will be available for your convenience. In addition:  AJHS will have sign-out sheets at the promotion certificate tables if you would like to take your 8th grade student home to celebrate with family.

​Time: 2:00-6:00 p.m. on June 5, 2015
Cost: $20 Includes admission to the park and a food coupon.​


​Please note this event is NOT sponsored by AJHS or PTO. It is being organized by parents of the 8th Grade class. the Park is not opened​ to the general public that day and no siblings or friends that are not AJHS 8th graders are allowed to attend. The park will be fully under the supervision of the Ravine Water Park lifeguards and some parents, who are cleared with AUSD regarding Megan's Law
​  Also, parents must organize their child's own transportation to and from the park. THIS IS NOT A SCHOOL SPONSORED EVENT, therefore, THE DISTRICT IS NOT LIABLE.

The  AHS Theatre Department's Spring Play is Cheaper by the Dozen! Come see our talented students bring to life the true story of the Gilbreth Family in this heartwarming, comedic staged adaptation. The play takes place in the twenties and we have had a lot of fun with costumes, set, props from that time period. All of the students really shine in this production and you know they would love to see you there!

Friday, May 29 and Saturday May 30 at 7pm

All shows in AHS BlackBox Theater
Tickets are only $5 for students and $10 for general public.

Drama has enjoyed a thoroughly sold-out year so we want to be sure you have a seat on the night you would like to join us!


Hosting a Foreign Exchange Student Opportunity.  Would you and your family be interested in hosting a high school exchange student for the 2015-2016 school year?  His name is Matthias and he is from the Netherlands.  I have included his handwritten host family letter as well as some additional information below.  Please let me know if you are interested and I am here to answer any questions you may have!

Cheerful, easy going and sporty Matthias from the Netherlands, who will be 17 upon arrival in the US, enjoys outdoor activities, especially soccer. Not only does he play on a team, he coaches a younger group of students and cheers on his favorite European teams. Matthias enjoys all types of sports as well as traveling, shopping, listening to music, watching movies and time with family. Time with family is limited due to the family business which Matthias contributes to its success in his free time. It is no surprise that business and economics are 2 of his favorite school subjects with an future interest in business. To support his family at home, Matthias lends a hand by cleaning his room, neatening the house, working in the yard and garden plus washing the car. Described as a natural leader by his friends and teacher, Matthias is also considered calm, curious, responsible and social. He has many friends that gather to play soccer, PlayStation games, shop, go to the movies, etc. He would like an opportunity to explore more in the area of technology and improve his English while on exchange. Who will open their home to this wonderful young man?
